Hi my name is Bill and I found I had enough of the irregular time at uni and the administrative nonsense that seemed more important than helping me to learn. So I have been trying the MAANZ course.

I would like to thank MAANZ for their outstanding learning resources. Your online courses have helped me refresh my skills, learn new skills and formalise skills that I have learnt "on the job". The MXpress courses provide people with an affordable and flexible means for pursuing further study. The course material is of an exceptional standard. I found it interesting to read, useful and relevant. I would also like to thank MAANZ for their support and exemplary customer service.

Becoming a Chartered Professional Practitioner

The MAANZ/ICPP Program

The Chartered Professional Practitioner (Marketing) licensing program is provided by

The Marketing Association of Australia & NZ in conjunction with the Institute of Chartered Professional Practitioners.  It is without doubt the new benchmark of personal professional accreditation in marketing practise.

Launched in 2006, the CPP - Marketing qualification offers CPP licensees the highest level professional recognition.  Entry to CPP status is based on existing qualifications, experience, the completion of a professional practitioner's course (ethics and professional practice) and signing the ICPP Charter.

The standards required to become a licensed Chartered Professional Practitioner are higher than similar professional recognition offerings – reflecting the status and expectations involved.

Whilst the standards are higher, the CPP is accessible and achievable for all who are willing to make the commitment to true professional practise.  Holders of the CPP are expected to offer employers and clients a high level of professionalism and to maintain a high level of skills.

The ICPP Program is an international, industry based, high quality professional accreditation program.  It was designed to bring the standards of ethical practise in use with professions such as Law and Engineering to other areas of practise such as marketing.

The ICPP Program:

  • Creates a true professional basis of practise, based on a high standard of ethical practice, not just marketing qualifications or ability.
  • Ensures that the marketing profession continues to advance with the knowledge and information expansion
  • Aims to protect the image of the profession by ensuring that high level practitioners are recognised.
  • Defines the core ethical and professional practice knowledge required by true professionals.
  • Provides greater assurance to clients and employers that their marketing employee or consultant is bound by a strong code of practice, able to provide quality advice, within a quality managed/assured framework that will lead to real solutions.
  • Provides an objective means for distinguishing individuals who meet recognised professional standards.
  • Sets the benchmark for new industry entrants.

ICPP licensing is for a period of 24 months

What is a CPP?

ICPP stands for the Institute of Chartered Professional Practitioners.  The Marketing Association of ANZ is an accredited provider of the ICPP Program.  A CPP is a Chartered Professional Practitioner.  A marketer registered with the ICPP and MAANZ is a CPP in Marketing'.

Holders of the CPP are accredited and licensed as Chartered Professional Practitioners for a period of 2 years.  They may use the post nominals (letters) CPP to assist recognition of their status as Chartered Professional Practitioners.  They may use the ICPP logo (in accordance with the ICPP rules)

The CPP is awarded on the basis of a combination of factors – qualifications, experience (a detailed checking and assessment process) and also requires the applicant to undertake a Certificate of Professional Practise course.  This material for the Certificate is provided to all applicants, as part of the ICPP application process - at no additional cost.  It consists of 2 topics - Professional Practice - Methods and Professional Practise - Conduct.  The study material for the Certificate is sent to you to study at home, at your own pace.  We do not expect that will take long to complete.

Professional Practise - Methods

This topic focuses on professional methods of research, planning and decision making consulting (providing advice)

Professional Practise - Conduct

This topic focuses on understanding professional responsibility.  It is based on the Charter of Professional Practise

All applicants for CPP status must also agree to follow principles set out in the ICPP Charter of Professional Practise (the code of practice set out in the charter) and to acknowledge this by signing the Charter.

What makes a CPP unique?

In a world where relentless change and uncertainty are the norm, the CPP brand's international recognition derives from steadfast commitment to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and education. Embodied in those who succeed, the CPP is the point of reference that directs their precise thinking, rigorous insights and ethical practices.

The ICPP brand message

No-one is more trusted or better qualified than a CPP to advise/guide an organisation.

Insightful

  • The penetrating mental ability to find the underlying truth.
  • The capacity to simultaneously take a macro and micro view and identify solutions.

Precise

  • Focused on delivering honest, clear, accurate, fact-based solutions that drive business success.

Ethical

  • Professional principles and good judgement to successfully navigate a marketplace characterised by uncertainty and change.
  • The ability to achieve breakthrough results without breaking the highest standards of professional conduct.

Without Equal

The key performance goal for the brand.

  • ICPP is about status, achievement and always striving to be the best.
  • It is the reference point from which quality decisions and business excellence are measured.

Why have CPP?

The establishment of individual professional accreditation is a trend that has been occurring through many professions.   The ICPP model to achieve this is highly credible, flexible and accessible to all.

Are You Eligible? Do You Want to Make the Grade?

If you have tertiary marketing qualifications and/or sufficient experience and are willing to complete the entrance requirements, you will be able to gain the qualification and high status of a CPP.   Our aim is to be encouraging and inclusive rather than simply exclusive.  We welcome your application and will do our best to help you achieve this status.

The Process

As part of the accreditation process, you will be asked to make a declaration of your knowledge and experience in marketing and your application will be assessed on this basis.

If you have at least 10 years of experience in a middle/senior marketing management/executive role (meet the knowledge and experience requirements), or five years experience and possess a MAANZ Master of Professional Practise or equivalent tertiary marketing qualification at degree level you will also be eligible to be accredited and awarded a CPP licence.

Recently Graduate Students

If you are a recent graduate, with less than 5 years industry experience, you can apply now, undertake the Certificate of Professional Practice and be provisionally accepted for a CPP accreditation and licensing.  After you have achieved a requisite further 2 years experience, (along with meeting the continuing development requirements) practising in accordance with ICPP requirements, you will receive full CPP recognition and licence.

The ICPP- Marketing Program is designed for all practising marketing professionals.  A typical profile of a CPP-marketing is someone who is able to demonstrate a tertiary level qualification together with 5 years practical marketing experience, or 10 years experience as a senior practitioner.

Quantitative & Qualitative Assessments

Three criteria are used to assess applications.

1 The Qualifications and Experience (Quantitative and Qualitative) point scoring matrix.

This is based on:

  • Educational Qualifications
  • Job Function
  • Level of Seniority
  • Practical Experience

2. The ICPP-Certificate of Professional Practise course which is completed by distance in the applicants own time – 2 written assignments

3. The willingness to commit, by agreeing to and signing the ICPP Charter of Professional Practice

Why Should You Apply?

A CPP qualification and licence will enhance your professional status and possibilities.

One of the key objectives of the ICPP accreditation (licensing) program is to increase public, consumer, client and employer confidence.   Full acceptance (by signing and displaying the certificate) of the Charter of Professional Practise is compulsory for all CPPs

Assessment for CPP

Your application will be personally assessed by the Executive Director of the Marketing Association of ANZ, who will then make a recommendation to the Council.  The application assessment process is normally expected to take about a week.

A weighting and scoring process take into account the diverse nature of marketing, seeking to accommodate practitioners from different fields and experience.

What happens if your application is unsuccessful?

If your application is initially unsuccessful, we will suggest how you can improve your basis for application to gain sufficient points to be awarded CPP - for example by completing additional courses.  It is our wish to assist anyone who wants to make this commitment to this high level of professional commitment.

Once you have taken action to address any apparent gaps, your application will be reassessed.

Maintaining CPP status

The renewal of your CPP licence will be conditional upon what steps you have taken during the past two years to maintain your professional skills and standing (through relevant education and/or active participation in the Industry)

This:

  • ensures that you maintain your competitive edge, and
  • assures clients and colleagues that you are abreast of contemporary developments in marketing.

The ongoing requirements have been designed to ensure you maintain and enhance your professional practise and marketing skills over time.

After each 2 year period, when you receive your CPP renewal notice, you will be required to document your continuing professional development activities undertaken in the past 24 months.

As a CPP accredited and licensed professional, you will be asked to provide and sign off on details of the activities you have nominated
